For 12 humid hrs, the streets of St.pete were filled with racers competing to see who could complete the most laps on a 14.7mile course.. There were some impressive lap times being put up.. just breaking 41min lap times. The overall turn out was good considering the sketchy weather and horrible heat. They had 12 4 man teams.. actually 11- 4 man teams and a 3 man team that held their own finishing 6th with only 3 riders ( Ryan Magin, Joe Badessa and Billy Crupp). Top honors went to 352 Racing Bike & More for the 4 man team bracket, local shop 66 Fixed 2 man team took home 1st place and Eric Stubbs took first place in the individual bracket with an impressive 15 laps completed.. We cross our fingers this even comes back next year with more riders and sponsors.. It was a great event and great turn out.. enjoy the photo’s and congrats to all the racers and winners! in Russia bike rides you

We come to you with another girl on bike shoot.. The inspiration behind this shoot is our one and only lovely Max.. He runs all the behind the scenes and “IT” issues at Urban1cycle.com and well of course we he is from the motherland of Russia.. We have known Cristina for many years now, and she came up with the classic title for this feature “In Russia, bike rides you” being that Max designed his bike with some Russian “flare”.. Interesting idea for a bike lock from Jaryn Miller.  The Senza system makes a bike completely secure. The whole system is incorporated into the bike itself making it easier to simply grab and go, and also provides safety for quick stops. The hadlebars seperate into three pieces. The central piece remains in place on the frame, while the two removed handles lock together, offering more space, and versitiliy than a standard U-Lock. Furthermore, if a thief were to cut the lock off, it renders the bike virtually unridable, as there are no handle bars. In addition, the lock on the rear of the bike is used to secure the back tire and seat post.

San Francisco, CA (April 30, 2011) —On a picture perfect Saturday afternoon, more than 5,000 people headed to San Francisco’s Justin Herman Plaza to watch Red Bull Ride + Style. The event was a collision of fixed gear biking and urban contemporary art, with the competition held on a course featuring artwork created by California artists. Red Bull Ride + Style brought together 60 riders from all over, including riders from the Bay Area, Seattle, Portland, New York and even Japan.

Participating riders competed in one of two categories: track or freestyle. The track competition was along the lines of a traditional race, with two riders going head-to-head and the one with the best time advancing to the next round. The track included a custom art installation by Los Angeles-based artists Mark Grieve and Ilana Spector that served as the starting arch. The competition was fierce on the narrow track, with riders elbowing each other for position, and multiple riders crashing into the guard rails. In the end, there was a final showdown between two Bay Area riders that weren’t even supposed to compete. Jason Clary and Kell McKenzie were both alternates, who were only asked to fill in for dropouts the day before the event. The two friends, who ride together often, put friendship aside for the final race, and Clary was able to edge out McKenzie for the win.
I’ve been a bike messenger for years,” said Jason Clary. “And this was a super technical course that really catered to how we ride – weaving in and out of traffic, accelerating quickly, and getting very close to obstacles. I’m really excited that I even got to participate, and winning is amazing.”

The freestyle portion of the competition gave riders the chance to showcase their style and best tricks on several one-of-a-kind ramps built by Jeremy Witek. The custom features donned artwork by urban contemporary artists Aaron De La Cruz, Erik Otto, N8 Van Dyke and Arlo Eisenberg. The four artists worked as a collective, merging together their unique styles to create eye-catching rideable works of art. The freestyle competition grouped the participating riders into five different heats, six riders in each. The talent was impressive, and featured a groundbreaking backflip performed by rider Kohei “Kozo” Fuji from Osaka, Japan. The trick has never been landed in an international competition, and the ecstatic crowd stormed the course to congratulate Fuji on the amazing feat. But in the end, it was Matt Reyes from Gilroy, CA whose consistent and stylish riding ultimately earned him first place, followed by Josh Boothby from Castro Valley, CA in second and Tyler Johnson from Seattle in third.

“I don’t usually win these things, and I didn’t even realize I rode so well,” said Matt Reyes. “It’s just great to have an event that brings the best riders from all over the world together. If it weren’t for today, I’d never even get to meet these guys, let alone ride with them.”

As a surprise, event partner Oakley gave out a “Sick-o Award” for each discipline (track and freestyle), with the winner getting an Oakley 12 Gauge(tm) wristwatch. Austin Horse, a New York bike messenger, took the award for clocking the fastest track time, and Fuji’s backflip earned him the award in the freestyle section.

Additional event partners include Juxtapoz, iMinusD, D-Structure SF and the San Francisco Bike Coalition. Through the Red Bull network, hi-res video and still images are captured and made immediately available for editorial use for all media channels including television, film, print, mobile, and digital. Us Versus Them has teamed up with SE Bikes to design the best fixed freestyle frameset available.  Spearheaded by UVT’s James Banuelos, the Us Versus Them frame was designed from the ground up to withstand the harshest abuse that riders are putting their bikes through. Tested by Gus Molina, Josh Boothby, and DJ Mull, the frame has been put through months of abuse to make sure that the frame is bombproof. The Cr-Mo frame has been fully heat treated with the top and down tubes being double butted. The seat tube has been cut-out to allow clearance for larger (50c) tire sizes along with ovalized & tapered seat and chain stays for extra tire and foot clearances.

The 73mm mid bottom bracket and Campy compatible integrated headset are both externally machined and a sealed Tange headset comes installed as well as a trick integrated seat clamp. Finally, the Landing Gear forks are heat treated & butted for even more strength.

To match the aggressive nature of the technical specs, UVT designer Graham Nystrom gave the bike his signature treatment, choosing a gunmetal grey paint for the base color of the frame, and wrapping a tonal hand drawn snake scale print around the front, the brand motto “Never Stop” is printed on the brake bridge along with UVT/SE branding on the seat tube.
