Cool interview with Mike Chacon in Venice, showing off his freestyle riding fixed gear bike. Enjoy…
For 12 humid hrs, the streets of St.pete were filled with racers competing to see who could complete the most laps on a 14.7mile course.. There were some impressive lap times being put up.. just breaking 41min lap times. The overall turn out was good considering the sketchy weather and horrible heat. They had 12 4 man teams.. actually 11- 4 man teams and a 3 man team that held their own finishing 6th with only 3 riders ( Ryan Magin, Joe Badessa and Billy Crupp). Top honors went to 352 Racing Bike & More for the 4 man team bracket, local shop 66 Fixed 2 man team took home 1st place and Eric Stubbs took first place in the individual bracket with an impressive 15 laps completed.. We cross our fingers this even comes back next year with more riders and sponsors.. It was a great event and great turn out.. enjoy the photo’s and congrats to all the racers and winners! Us Versus Them has teamed up with SE Bikes to design the best fixed freestyle frameset available. Spearheaded by UVT’s James Banuelos, the Us Versus Them frame was designed from the ground up to withstand the harshest abuse that riders are putting their bikes through. Tested by Gus Molina, Josh Boothby, and DJ Mull, the frame has been put through months of abuse to make sure that the frame is bombproof. The Cr-Mo frame has been fully heat treated with the top and down tubes being double butted. The seat tube has been cut-out to allow clearance for larger (50c) tire sizes along with ovalized & tapered seat and chain stays for extra tire and foot clearances.
The 73mm mid bottom bracket and Campy compatible integrated headset are both externally machined and a sealed Tange headset comes installed as well as a trick integrated seat clamp. Finally, the Landing Gear forks are heat treated & butted for even more strength.
Here is an interesting quad fixed prototype.
“It was only a matter of time ‘till we put pen to paper & drafted up the first ever Quad Fixed frame. What you see here is #1 of one. Strictly prototype & still in the development stage. This frame was handed off to Marwin “The Wizard” Ou last night. Marwin will be riding & testing it on the streets & skateparks of the LBC in the coming months. We have not yet decided if we will bring the Quad Fixed frame into SE’s 2012 line of bikes. So for now, just consider it our little pet project. If you like what you see, keep an eye out on the SE website (www.SEBIKES.com) and SE’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/SEBIKES) for the frame’s progress.”
Yes… we have a proof of this elusive animal. Unfortunately for you, Walmart is out of stock. So far the end of the fixed gear world was narrowly avoided.
I actually like the idea of using reflective print to combine design and security, especially during the night rides around the city. These shirts designed by a small group of artists from Berlin that designed clothes for fixed gear riders. For more info click here.
