A few months back urban1cycle was brain storming and came up with the idea to bring two different idea’s together.. the fixed gear / single speed scene with vinyl toy world.. Some might not know too much about vinyl toy’s… many companies out there that product high end vinyl toys that I consider art and others do too.. Many big names out there such as Maihiro and Kidrobot.. After looking through Maihiro work, I def got interested and wanted to work together with them.. I contacted Nakanari @ Maihiro, after a few weeks of idea’s being tossed around. He came up with the ninja skitty idea. Then I contaced our boys @ Velocity wheels, who were totally down for the colab… and we got our hands on a sick set of white B43’s.. Here is a sneak peek of the colab… COMING SOON!
Here is a wheel detail of the design..
Charles Alexander Diez, the former North Carolina firefighter who shot cyclist Alan Simons in the head, has been sentenced to four months in jail. Diez pled guilty to shooting Simons during a July 26 roadside confrontation. Said to be upset that Simons was riding his bike with his 3-year-old child, Diez fired his .38 caliber pistol as Simons walked away after the two exchanged words. The bullet struck Simons’ bike helmet, narrowly missing his skull. So let me get this right, you can get years for abusing animals but you can shoot a cyclist and get a slap on your wrist? Wow, just wow. Story via StreetsBlog.
Well… the world as we know is coming to an end. Korean toy maker and customizer Coolrain designed 12 inch toy figures for Korean retailer Kasina. Toy design based on fixed gear/skate street fashion. So,”cheesy thumbs up”, get your own toy!!!
Today at the COP 15 Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, M.I.T. students introduced the technologically advanced Copenhagen Wheel. In addition to including various sensors and Bluetooth capability, the tire stores kinetic energy from braking for a later burst of speed.
The makers of the Copenhagen Wheel from M.I.T.’s SENSEable City Laboratory claim that the new features mark the advent of “Biking 2.0,” a new era based on smarter bikes and easier rides. The wheel is certainly a step in that direction; it includes sensors for detecting distance, speed, direction, all of which are beamed via Bluetooth to the rider’s iPhone. The wheel also includes a built-in lock that sends the rider a text if tampered with.

Not sure if you can call this a true bike because seems like it has a power assist feature but it does sound like a good idea for people who just want to get around town without a car or people just trying to be more “green”.
Create a UK bike company released second version of their fixed/single speed bike. Bikes available in all kind of candy-colored setups just like bikes at Republic Bikes or Urban Outfitters. This second version uses better components and also it is a lot cheaper than their first version of these bikes. So far online price is 199 UK pounds. New lower price and lots of better components makes this bike a pretty good bargain.
Trek now offers a closer look into its District bike made in collaboration with Lance Armstrong. Among the many features, the bike boasts a carbon fiver frame, carbon fiber composite yellow belt drive system, and hints of LIVESTRONG yellow within a mostly black design.
This bike has no chains or your normal crank and uses hydraulics and qualifies as a single speed bike, also it folds itself entirely into the wheels’ 26 inch circumference. So far it is only a prototype and not available anywhere. This bike was designed by Dominic Hargreaves and for more info on this project check out his site.
